Looking at a rather nice 1998 528i with winter package, and I was wondering what that includes. My google searches have been inconclusive (keeps bringing up shit about snow tires).

I’d assume heated seats were included, but I’ve also heard of LSD and heated steering wheels as well. Anyone have any knowledge they might share?

I think it was largely accessories rather than options, i.e. roof rack and ski bag, but I think it came with a higher output alternator too.

Damn. I might actually be able to use a ski bag, but still, I want a goddamn limited slip!

Goto the VIN decoder and run a search on the option codes that it spits out.

I’m 99.999999% sure that BMW never offered a LSD for a 528i from the factory. And if they did it was probably in some performance package not winter.

Most winterpackages seem to have heated seats and headlight washers.

Ski pass through rear seat, heated seats, and headlight washers. I’m probably missing something.

Damnit. I’d seen LSD mentioned on some CL ads for older BMWs with winter packages, had me hopeful

On Audis it was the ski bag pass though in the trunk/rear rear seats, heated seats (all 4), heated steering wheel, heated cup holders, and headlight washers. Can’t remember if the heated mirrors were also part of that or if they were standard.

Based on the price of the option pack, and also on my experience whilst shopping for a similar car (albeit in California, where such a package is rarely ordered), it consisted of heated seats, steering wheel, headlight washers and locks; the last item might have been standard equipment as I believe my E34 had that feature.

It’s not a ski bag, it’s just a weird back seat with a fold down/up thing that resembles an arm rest with a big flap of fabric. The idea is that you put the skis in the trunk and they go straight into the back seat and the big flap is actually a sack that keeps snow and dirt from actually entering the vehicle. I had it on a ‘97 540i and wished it was actually larger so that it would hold my surfboard. The winter package isn’t very useful here in CA but the heated wheel after a surf in NorCal water got plenty of use.

Headlight washers (useless), a ski bag (useless after the first time), and heated seats. Not sure if the heated steering wheel was seperate or part of the package. I haven’t seen it included in later models cold weather package.
